Texans vs. Jaguars 2023 NFL Week 3 Odds, Preview & Pick

A crucial AFC South matchup gets the Week 3 ball rolling on Sunday, as the Houston Texans pay a visit to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Houston is still in search of its first victory of the season, while Jacksonville is looking to rebound from last week’s loss to the defending Super Bowl champs.

Why Bet on the Houston Texans?

The Houston Texans had a much better showing in Week 2 than in their season opener, yet the end result still wasn’t a victory. They fell 31-20 to another division rival in the Indianapolis Colts, who had to overcome an early injury to rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson and managed to still win by double digits.

On the bright side, Houston’s own first-year play-caller, C.J. Stroud, had a statistically sound performance, throwing for 384 passing yards and two touchdowns with an interception. Stroud did fumble twice and lost one of them, so there’s still room for improvement in ball security for the second-overall pick out of Ohio State. It also doesn’t help that the offensive line allowed six sacks to the Colts.

The Texans also have bigger problems on the other side of the ball, as they’re allowing an average of 28 points per game through two weeks of action. Then again, there’s just something about facing the Jaguars that brings the best out of the Texans, so perhaps the first win of the season for head coach DeMeco Ryans and his boys is not far from happening this weekend.

Why Bet on the Jacksonville Jaguars?

It was another valiant fight for the Jacksonville Jaguars against the Kansas City Chiefs in their rematch of the Divisional Round playoff bout last season. Unfortunately, the Chiefs’ defense stifled the Jaguars’ offense as KC escaped with a 17-9 road win to hand Jacksonville its first loss of the season.

The Jags were held to just 271 total yards, with Trevor Lawrence getting sacked four times and completing just 22 of his 41 passes for 216 yards. In turn, they were limited to just three field goals after dropping 31 points against the Colts in Week 1. It’s a good thing that the defense had a better showing in general this past weekend, keeping the Chiefs to under 20 points.

If the Colts found it easy to beat the Texans the first time around, then it only makes sense that the Jaguars take care of business against Houston themselves as well. However, as we’ll see in the betting trends section below, the Jags should be cautious of falling into a trap game against a Texans team that they can’t seem to solve.

Texans vs. Jaguars Expert Betting Predictions

This is a get-right game for the Jaguars and we expect them to rebound from last week’s defeat against Kansas City. However, the Texans are slowly improving and should make this a closer contest than the odds would suggest. Consider this a win for the Jags but with Houston covering the two-possession spread as road underdogs.
