Why Bet on the New York Giants?

After being down 20 points in halftime, the New York Giants managed to dig themselves out of that deep hole and managed to pull away with an almost miraculous 31-28 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2. New York avoided falling to 0-2 to start its season but it did come at a hefty cost.

Star running back Saquon Barkley was a beast on the ground as expected, piling up 17 carries for 63 rushing yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, Barkley suffered an ankle injury and will be out of action for the next few weeks at the very least. On the bright side, the passing game looked much better this past week, with Daniel Jones completing 26 of 37 passes for 321 yards and a pair of passing TDs, albeit with one interception.

The Giants exposed a weak Arizona defense in the second half, yet they’ll be facing a much tougher defensive unit this Thursday night. Their defense will have its hands full as well, as New York’s league-worst 34.0 points allowed per contest does not bode well for their chances at an upset in the Bay Area.

Why Bet on the San Francisco 49ers?

In a closer bout than what many expected, the San Francisco 49ers still picked up a huge road win over their California rivals the Los Angeles Rams this past Sunday, 30-23. San Francisco remains undefeated to start the new season and is still widely regarded as one of if not the best team in the NFL right now.

It was another fantastic performance for the Niners’ running game, which gashed the Rams for 159 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries, with stud back Christian McCaffrey leading the way with 116 rushing yards and a rushing TD. Brock Purdy was efficient once more under center, going 17-of-25 for 206 passing yards, no turnovers, and one rushing score.

What’s a bit of a concern for the 49ers is that their defense allowed the Rams to throw for over 300 passing yards and convert seven of their 14 third-down opportunities. Thankfully, a pair of late takeaways allowed the Niners to hang onto their 10-point lead at the start of the final quarter. San Francisco is currently tied for third in the league allowing just 15 points per game, and this defense will get to regroup against a Giants often missing its best weapon yet again.

  • The totals went over in each of the last four NYG-SF matchups.
  • The 49ers are undefeated in the last eight home games, including the playoffs (7-1 ATS).
  • The Niners are 4-1 in its last five games played against NFC East teams (SU/ATS).

Giants vs. 49ers Expert Betting Predictions

As daunting as the double-digit spread may seem on paper, the smart money is still on the 49ers to blow out the Giants sans Barkley in the backfield. The Niners would’ve also covered last week’s spread had it not been for a late, garbage-time Rams field goal, and they’ll be even more determined than the Giants to get a win by having the home-field advantage and a much healthier roster intact.
