UFC Vegas 33 Hall vs. Strickland Preview

Uriah Hall

  • MMA Record: 18-9-9

Although Uriah Hall faced a dip in his career in his run on TUF 17, there’s still plenty to look forward to for him. At the moment, the Jamaican-born middleweight has caught fire and has been the talk of the town in the UFC since the start of 2017. He has gone 5-1 in his last six fights in the Octagon, the lone loss coming against Paulo Costa.

But as he heads to the UFC Apex this Saturday, Hall gets a chance to protect a four-fight win streak and stretch it to five. His recent fights tell us that prefers trading punches with his opponents, and he has all the reason to do that. In his last 5 wins, he recorded a KO/TKO in three fights. More than that, Hall’s three-inch reach advantage works well with his striking skills.

No. 8 ranked Uriah Hall still has a shot at making it to the top of his weight division, and this scheduled fight against Strickland might just reward him with a ticket to take on UFC middleweight king Israel Adesanya. But to get that title shot, he will need to do well against Strickland this weekend, and from what we’ve seen from the other end of the stick, it’s not going to be a walk in the park. Nevertheless, we expect ‘Prime Time’ to put on a show as he tries to reach the top of the middleweight rankings.

Sean Strickland

  • MMA Record: 23-3-0

Meanwhile, ‘Tarzan’ brings plenty of questions to the table. He’s been in the UFC for seven years with several highs and lows, but he still has room to grow at 30-years-old. In a way, his time in the UFC is similar to that of Charles Oliveira’s. And like his upcoming opponent, Strickland rides a four-fight win streak and hasn’t lost since returning to middleweight last year.

His recent performance against Brendan Allen saw him show his best self after securing a TKO win. When it comes to striking abilities, he can go toe to toe with Hall based on what we’ve seen recently. However, given Hall’s takedown defense and Strickland’s relatively weak wrestling, it’s likely that this fight will be decided on their feet.

Strickland has the durability that can outlast Hall, but what he lacks in toughness and speed he makes up for in power. He can employ this along with his one-inch height edge and a clear edge in significant strikes landed per minute. Since returning from his motorcycle accident, Strickland found more motivation and looked impressive in his victories. He enters the octagon as the favorite and is on pace to extend his streak to 5 wins.

UFC Vegas 33 Hall vs. Strickland Betting Trends

  • Hall is 6-4 in his last 10 fights.
  • Hall earned 2 TKO wins in his last 4 fights.
  • Hall suffered 3 TKO losses in his last 10 fights.
  • Strickland is 8-2 in his last 10 fights.
  • Strickland earned 2 TKO wins in his last 4 fights.
  • In his last 2 losses, Hall suffered one KO.

UFC Vegas 33 Expert Betting Predictions

This is a close fight to call, but looking at Strickland’s record against unorthodox fighters, Hall might find the opportunity to execute the knockout punch. After building up his confidence against Anderson Silva, ‘Prime Time’ gets a good chance at winning this fight. On the other hand, Strickland brings a lot to the table as well in terms of beating Hall on paper, making it tough to pick a clear-cut winner. But since Strickland is the hotter of the two, he gets a slight advantage here.
