Why Bet on the Tennessee Volunteers?

After Heisman Trophy contender Hendon Hooker went down with an injury, Joe Milton took over. The best we can say about Milton’s performance this season is that he didn’t throw a pick.

Milton isn’t Hooker, which is why Heupel will go with the rushing attack. Tennessee averaged 205.8 rushing yards per game. So if Milton gives them anything, the Vols should move the football.

We shouldn’t expect the Volunteers to reach their 47.3 per game average. However, scoring 28 to 35 is a possibility.

Tennessee’s defense stepped it up this season. The Volunteers allowed a lot of yards but didn’t give up a ton of points.

Opponents averaged close to 400 yards per game. But those same opponents averaged less than 24 points each contest. Byron Young led the Volunteers in sacks with 5. Trevon Flowers led the team with 2 interceptions.

Why Bet on the Clemson Tigers?

The stats say Clemson’s offense played just fine during the regular season. However, that’s not the case.

The Tigers averaged 404.6 yards and 34.7 points each game. But Clemson failed when it counted most, against South Carolina and Notre Dame in the Tigers’ 2 losses.

Because of the offensive failures, Swinney benched DJ Uiagalelei. Clemson’s starting QB this season has since entered the transfer portal and won’t play on Friday.

Clemson has a solid defense. It allows 331.2 yards per game and allows 20.1 points each contest. The Tigers rank tenth versus the rush. Opponents run for 101.2 yards per game on average.

Myles Murphy led the team in sacks with 6.5, which poses an issue. Myles Murphy has opted out. So Clemson will be looking for one of their other defensive linemen to put Milton on his back.

Tennessee vs. Clemson Expert Betting Predictions

Opt-outs and injuries have made the Orange Bowl one of the toughest games to handicap this bowl season. Hendon Hooker won’t play, which means Tennessee must go with Milton.

Milton isn’t much of an upgrade over Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik. But there is one opt- out that will have a massive affect on this game.

Myles Murphy won’t play. Murphy wants to prepare for the NFL Draft in April. Without Murphy, the Vols should have an easier time rushing the football.

If we say Klubnik and Milton are a wash, the Volunteers become the play. Clemson will struggle to move the football. Josh Heupel, though, will come up with a great strategy to take advantage of Murphy’s absence. Tennessee covers.
