FIFA Women’s World Cup

Switzerland vs. Spain

Switzerland sort of lucked their way into the Round of 16. The Swiss beat the Philippines 2-0 in their first group stage match. Then the Swiss drew against Norway and New Zealand.

Spain destroyed Costa Rica 3-0 and Zambia 5-0 in their first two group stage matches. El Rojo didn’t have to beat Japan. So we shouldn’t read too much into Spain’s 0-4 loss. The Spanish roll to an easy win.

Soccer Betting Pick: Spain

Japan vs. Norway

Japan versus Norway should be an exceptional match. The Norwegians rallied from a group stage loss to New Zealand to draw with Switzerland and then dominate the Philippines 6-0.

The Japanese have yet to yield a goal. Japan blasted Zambia and Costa Rica and then blasted Spain 4-0. Japan is slightly better than Norway and it will show on Saturday.

Soccer Betting Pick: Japan

Netherlands vs. South Africa

South Africa had to fight hard to secure their knockout stage position. The South Africans got by Italy 3-2 in one of the more competitive matches at this year’s women’s World Cup.

The Dutch followed up their 1-1 draw against the United States with a terrific 7-0 beating of Vietnam. The Orange can win the World Cup. It’s a huge accomplishment for South Africa to get to this stage. The Netherlands move to the quarterfinals.

Soccer Betting Pick: Netherlands

Sweden vs. United States

This isn’t the same U.S. squad from the last couple of Women’s World Cup cycles. The Americans boast a single victory at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, a 3-0 win against Vietnam.

Draws versus the Netherlands and Portugal doesn’t bode well for the U.S.’s chances of getting by Sweden, much less winning the Cup.

Sweden has yet to yield more than a goal. More impressively, the Swedes beat South Africa 2-1, Italy 5-0, and Argentina 2-0 on their way to dominating their group. The odds make the Swedes an overlay.

Soccer Betting Pick: Netherlands

England vs. Nigeria

On August 1, England finally broke out with the type of performance so many had been expecting. The English routed China 6-1.

Nigeria upset Australia 3-2 and posted a couple of draws versus Canada and the Republic of Ireland on their way to the Round of 16. The Nigerians are patient and play excellent defense.

But England should sneak by at least 1 goal. The English win.

Soccer Betting Pick: Netherlands

English FA Community Shield

Arsenal vs. Manchester City

The winner depends on which Sky Blues team shows up. Manchester City, when the starters play, is the most dominant club team in the world.

But if City holds back in this to save something for the start of the season, Arsenal can for sure get the victory. The Gunners made Barcelon look silly in their last, a 5-3 club friendly victory. Arsenal may be more enthusiastic than Man City. The Gunners are the play.

Soccer Betting Pick: Arsenal
