San Francisco 49ers 2023 Straight-Up Overview
Brock Purdy is the key to a successful San Francisco season. Although Trey Lance remains a top prospect, Shanahan appears to have made the decision to hand over the keys to his Ferrari of an offense to the 2022 NFL Draft’s Mr. Irrelevant.
Taking over for Jimmy Garoppolo, who took over for Lance last season, Purdy excelled up until the injury in the NFC title contest. So far this offseason, Brock has given every indication he’s ready to pick up where he left off before the injured elbow.
Purdy’s rise to the top has to do with his ability to grasp Shanahan’s complex playbook. The SF offense has a lot of weapons, including the best overall skill player in the league, Deebo Samuel, one of the league’s best tight ends in George Kittle, and the NFL’s top running back in Christian McCaffrey. So if Purdy is one-hundred percent, the 49ers should average close to 30 points per game if not eclipse the 30 mark.
San Francisco’s defense could be better than the offense. The Niners signed Javon Hargrave away from the Eagles. Hargrave takes pressure off of the reigning defensive player of the year, Nick Bosa.
The 49ers boast the NFL’s best linebacker room in Dre Greenlaw, Fred Warner, and Oren Banks The secondary is as solid as it gets.
Talanoa Hufanga is one of the league’s top strong safeties. Hufanga is as effective in coverage as he is at blitzing quarterbacks and stopping the run. Corners Deommodore Lenoir and Charvarious Ward make for one of the top pair of corners in the NFL.
Free safety Tashaun Gipson Sr. might be the league’s top free safety. Finally, coach Kyle Shanahan is as good of a play caller as there is in the league. Unless injuries hit the 49ers, SF has a chance to boast the NFL’s best regular season record. We’re going to write that SF loses 2 games in 2023, at Seattle and at Philadelphia, on their way to a 15-2 mark.

San Francisco 49ers 2023 Against the Spread Overview
After Trey Lance went down, oddsmakers tried to adjust betting lines. Then after Jimmy G’s injury, oddsmakers scrambled to adjust lines since the Niners were down to their third string quarterback.
Purdy, though, turned out to be the best among Shanahan’s three signal-callers. Brock won’t sneak up on oddsmakers this season. So instead of posting an 11-6 ATS record like they did in 2022, the 49ers will end the 2023 NFL Regular Season with a 9-8 against the spread record.

While oddsmakers struggled setting fair spread lines, they didn’t struggle setting fair over under total lines. SF games went 9-8 over to under.
This season, we should expect a similar total record. The San Francisco 49ers will blow out many teams this season. So another 9-8 over to under record is possible.
