Why Bet on the Las Vegas Raiders?

It’s hard to pin down just how bad or how well the Las Vegas Raiders’ offseason has gone. Franchise quarterback Derek Carr decided to leave for the Big Easy, while stud tight end Darren Waller took his talents to the Meadowlands as well. In response, the Raiders signed former 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo, who had a hand in a Super Bowl appearance and three NFC title-game appearances for San Fran over the past four seasons.

Garoppolo’s health is certainly a concern, as he has seen his fair share of missed time due to injuries. Fortunately, Las Vegas has a superstar wideout in Davante Adams and a workhorse back in Josh Jacobs to ease Jimmy G into his transition in Sin City. The team even retooled its receiving corps by signing four wide receivers and drafting another this offseason.

Sadly, the Raiders’ porous defense (bottom-five in average yards allowed last season) remains suspect. They lost top-tackling linebacker Denzel Perryman and budding cornerback Rock Ya-Sin to name a few, and did not address these key losses during the offseason as expected. As such, Vegas will live and die on the strength of its offense and hope that the defense doesn’t become a liability, a situation that the Silver and Black are all too familiar with.

Why Bet on the Denver Broncos?

It was a nightmare of a debut season in the Rockies for Russell Wilson, who was the main catalyst for the Denver Broncos’ dismal 5-12 record during the 2022 NFL campaign. Wilson looked slow and out of sync, but the former Super Bowl champion also has former head coach Nathaniel Hackett to blame for the team’s downfall as Hackett was seen by most experts as ill-equipped to be at the helm of the storied franchise with some questionable calls on the sidelines all season long.

In comes another former Lombardi Trophy winner in head coach Sean Payton in hopes of turning the Broncos franchise around. Payton immediately upgraded the offensive line with the signings of Mike McGlinchey, Ben Powers, and Kyle Fuller, while also picking up Frank Clark and Zach Allen to shore up the defensive front seven.

The Broncos D ranked seventh in yards allowed per contest last season, so that side of the ball is expected to be on par or even better than last season’s lineup. There are several rising offensive talents such as running back Javonte Williams, and wideouts Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton. However, all of this promise will be for naught unless Wilson rediscovers his nine-time Pro Bowl selection form.

Raiders vs. Broncos Betting Trends

  • The Raiders went 2-7 on the road last season (3-6 ATS).
  • Las Vegas is 8-1 in the last nine meetings against Denver (SU/ATS), including a six-game head-to-head win streak to date.
  • The totals went under in five of Vegas’ last seven road games.
  • The Broncos went 4-4 at home last season (3-5 ATS).
  • Denver is 1-9 in its last 10 games against their AFC West rivals (4-6 ATS).
  • The totals went over in each of the last three games played in Mile High.

Raiders vs. Broncos Expert Betting Predictions

Although the trends would indicate that the Raiders have gotten the better of the Broncos over the last half-decade or so, there’s just too much uncertainty in Vegas’ roster, whereas Denver made more big moves this offseason to improve its own lineup. That being said, the Broncos should emerge victorious in their season opener, albeit with some hesitation that they’ll be able to win by more than a single field goal (and cover the spread at that) when all is said and done in Week 1.
