Philadelphia Eagles 2023 Straight-Up Overview
Success brings high expectations, which is why Philadelphia has become a Super Bowl betting favorite. The Eagles rocked it in 2022-2023, winning the NFC East, making it all the way to the Super Bowl, and losing just 3 games to finish 12-3.
Jalen Hurts was a revelation. Hurts, and this isn’t hyperbole, is changing the way quarterbacks play. Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the NFL, but he’s a traditional drop back passer who will run if required.
Hurts is a running quarterback who hybrids as a great passer. Jalen threw for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns to just 6 picks. He rushed for 760 yards and 13 TDs. Hurts could post better rushing and throwing stats this season if the offense calls for it, which makes our point.
Jalen will do whatever the offensive strategy requires, which makes him the most dynamic player in the league. It helps that Philly boasts two WR1 receivers in A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith. It also helps that the rushing attack is the best in the NFL.
In fact, the Eagles’ offensive line might be the best in the league. There is a stat that says Philadelphia allows pressure in 2.5 seconds are fewer but that could be because the stat is based on drop back passers, not rusher and passer quarterbacks like Hurts.
Hurts is always near the offensive line. He rarely drops back, which would explain why the Eagles allow pressure so fast.
On defense, the Eagles will rock. Hassan Reddick scored 16 sacks last season. Reddick might bet the best pure linebacker in the NFL.
But we have to question whether Jalen Carter steps up his game in the pros. Carter’s immaturity could be an issue. Last season, Javon Hargrave was a Philly defensive leader.
So if Carter doesn’t step it up, the D line won’t be as effective. But Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox, and Josh Sweat are there to help the rookie. So things shouldn’t go too far south.
Expect another fantastic Philadelphia Eagles season. Forget 14-3 straight up. How about 15-2?
