Two of the NFL’s more revered franchises will meet in Monday Night Football Week 5, with the Green Bay Packers taking a trip to Sin City to take on the Las Vegas Raiders. Green Bay has been a roller coaster of a team, while Las Vegas is on a downward turn of late. Who’ll come out on top of this primetime matchup?

Why Bet on the Green Bay Packers?

The Green Bay Packers are well-rested heading into Week 5 as they were just in another primetime bout during Week 4’s Thursday Night Football affair against the Detroit Lions. Unfortunately, the Packers lost to the Lions, 34-20, with Detroit emerging as the lone leader in the NFC North standings and with Green Bay falling to 2-2.

Jordan Love was pedestrian at best under center, going 23-of-36 for 246 passing yards and a passing touchdown. However, Love threw a pair of interceptions for his first multi-INT game of the season, as the confidence from his efficient first two starts is slowly waning. More bad news is that Green Bay gained just 27 yards on the ground against the Lions, averaging just 2.3 rushing yards per carry as a team.

Outside of stud linebacker Quay Walker, who’s ranked fourth overall in the NFL with 47 total tackles, there’s not much else to love out of the Packers’ defense. They rank in the bottom half of the league in terms of yardage and points allowed per game, and they were also just rocked by Detroit for a season-worst 34 points.

Why Bet on the Las Vegas Raiders?

An injury to starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo could not have come at a worse time for the Las Vegas Raiders, who lost in their divisional matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4, 24-17. Las Vegas has lost three straight games and is making a case for one of the worst teams in all football.

Backup rookie QB Aidan O’Connell was thrown right into the NFL fire and had a mediocre showing of 238 passing yards with one pick and no touchdowns on 24-of-39 passing. Running back Josh Jacobs (58 rushing yards, one rushing TD, team-high 81 receiving yards) and top wideout Davante Adams (13 targets, eight catches, 75 receiving yards) remain the team’s only two top options on offense and could not wait for Garoppolo to come back from the NFL’s concussion protocol.

The Raiders’ defense ranks near the Packers’ D, with both units being middling at best with no significant strengths to write home about. That being said, Week 5’s MNF clash will be up to Green Bay and Vegas’ respective offenses to play clean football. Unfortunately for the Raiders, they’re tied with the Browns for the second-most turnovers in the league with 10 giveaways.

Packers vs. Raiders Expert Betting Predictions

As the current odds would suggest, this MNF showdown is a virtual toss-up, with both sides being rather unpredictable after four weeks of action. If Garoppolo is starting on Monday night, then we’ll take the Raiders at home. If Jimmy G isn’t good to go, though, the smart money will surely shift to the Packers pulling off the road win.
