Why Bet on the Ole Miss Rebels?

No. 22 Ole Miss opened with a 73-7 rout of FCS school Mercer. The Rebels set a new single-game passing record with 524 yards through the air against the Bears, breaking the previous record of 517 against ULM in 2018, in addition to putting up the sixth-best offensive performance in program history at 667 total yards. Ole Miss’ 73 points scored were the highest total in the Lane Kiffin era and tied for the seventh-best in program history.

Senior receiver Tre Harris became the first Rebel to catch four touchdowns in a game and only the 12th to ever haul in three. He also became just the 22nd player in SEC history with at least four receiving touchdowns in a game. Harris ended the day with 133 yards on six total catches, and combined with Jordan Watkins (111 yards) to give starting quarterback Jaxson Dart a one-two punch en route to a 334 yard season-opening performance on an 18-of-23 line. Dart became just the sixth QB in Ole Miss history to string together 11 consecutive completions.

In his Rebel debut, QB Spencer Sanders added 134 yards after playing in the second half. The last time Ole Miss had two 100-yard passers was against Mississippi State in 2019, with Matt Corral throwing for 124 yards and John Rhys Plumlee adding 121. Not clear if both Dart and Sanders will keep sharing time under center but Dart will remain the starter.

“He had a really good camp and spring, and so he’s the starting quarterback,” Kiffin said. “I’ve said all along that we’re extremely excited about that room. Walker (Howard) came in and played really well, made some really good throws in the game too. I always say within the team, each position group is a team within itself. Our goal is to improve that every offseason. That position dramatically improved, like you saw from all three guys that went in.”

Star running back Quinshon Judkins totaled 13 carries for 60 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Judkins scored 16 times on the ground last season as a freshman.

Why Bet on the Tulane Green Wave?

Tulane coach Willie Fritz is in his eighth year in charge. He led the Green Wave to a 12-2 mark in 2022 and capped the season with a thrilling 46-45 victory over USC in the Cotton Bowl. For his efforts, he was named the AAC Coach of the Year after leading Tulane to its first AP national ranking in 24 years, guiding the Green Wave to its most conference wins since 1934.

The Green Wave opened this season with a 37-17 win over South Alabama. QB Michael Pratt had a near perfect passing day in going 14-for-15 for 294 yards and four touchdowns. His lone incompletion hit his receiver in the hands in the end zone before South Alabama’s Jaden Voisin reached in to bat it away. USA didn’t do much to make Pratt’s life difficult, but to his credit he didn’t miss on many of the opportunities he was given.

Pratt’s fourth touchdown pass tied the school record for career touchdowns of 72 set by Patrick Ramsey. Pratt’s 346.0 passer rating was the second-highest single-game mark by an FBS quarterback since 2014. In his career, he has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 35 of his 36 career games. Pratt now has 25 multiple touchdown passing performances in his career.

Pratt also ran for 39 yards. Pratt in home games is 312-for-490 with 41 TD passes, 7 interceptions and has thrown for 4,248 yards in his Tulane career. He has four 300 yard passing games, 11 200+ yard passing games, 14 multi-TD passing games. Jha’Quan Jackson totaled three catches for 106 yards and two touchdown receptions. Jackson now has 51 catches for 709 yards and five touchdowns in home games.

Tulane recorded 436 yards of offense in the evening with 294 passing and 142 rushing. The Green Wave defense limited South Alabama to 265 total yards. The team also had seven tackles for loss and five sacks, plus a pair of interceptions and three forced fumbles. Since the start of 2016 season, Tulane is now 37-9 when leading at halftime.
