Oklahoma is off to the SEC next season along with Texas, meaning the No. 10 Sooners’ Bedlam matchup against Oklahoma State on Saturday is the last meeting between the bitter rivals for the foreseeable future with OU favored on the NCAAF odds. The loser has an uphill climb to reach the Big 12 title game.

Why Bet on the Oklahoma Sooners?

The first Bedlam football game dates back to 1904. Oklahoma wasn’t even a state but a territory with Guthrie as its capital Oklahoma and Oklahoma A&M duked out a 75-0 game with the Sooners winning. Bragging rights for the time being will be established this week. Oklahoma owns a 90-20-7 advantage in the all-time series and a 40-8-5 lead in Stillwater.

“I’m very traditionalist when it comes to conference rivalry games and such,” OSU Coach Mike Gundy said. “The Bedlam game is over because Oklahoma chose to leave the Big 12, period.”

The Sooners (7-1) suffered their first loss of the season Saturday, 38-33 at Kansas. Quarterback Jason Bean led a 7-play, 80-yard drive that ended with a 9-yard touchdown run by Devin Neal to give the Jayhawks a 38-33 lead. On the final play of the game, Kansas deflected the ball out of the end zone to complete the victory and give KU its first win over Oklahoma since 1997.

OU star QB Dillon Gabriel completed 14 of 19 passes (74%) for 171 yards and rushed 14 times for 64 yards and three scores. Gabriel now has a career-high eight rushing touchdowns this season and 22 rushing TDs in his career (14 at OU). He became the first OU player to rush for three touchdowns in a game since Kennedy Brooks in the 2021 Alamo Bowl vs. Oregon. Gabriel was a little erratic to start the game. His first two throws were an incomplete pass that was way off target, and the next was a late decision that resulted in Kansas cornerback Mello Dotson taking the pass the other way for a pick-six.

Tawee Walker carried a career-high 23 times for 146 yards and a score. The Sooners registered a season-high 269 rushing yards in the game. Oklahoma and Kansas each notched three takeaways, but the Jayhawks scored 12 points off the turnovers to OU’s six.

Oklahoma has yet to allow an offensive touchdown in the first quarter this season. Kansas’ rushing touchdown with 3:03 left in the third quarter represented the first touchdown of any kind OU has allowed in the third quarter this season. The Sooners held Kansas to 4 of 14 on third downs (29%). KU converted four of its first six third downs and none of its final eight. OU has held each of its eight opponents to a 42% or lower third-down conversion rate and has held six below a 30% conversion rate.

Why Bet on the Oklahoma State Cowboys?

Oklahoma State (6-2) won a fourth straight game Saturday, 45-13 over Cincinnati. Ollie Gordon II rushed for 271 yards and two touchdowns. Gordon joined Barry Sanders as the only Oklahoma State players to rush for at least 250 yards in consecutive games. He has rushed for at least 100 yards in five straight contests and gained 858 yards from scrimmage the past three games.

Gordon reached 1,000 rushing yards for the season in just eight games, the quickest Cowboy to surpass the mark since Chuba Hubbard needed just six games in 2019. He has joined Chuba Hubbard as the only Cowboy since 2010 with five straight games of 100+ rushing yards and has posted 11 total touchdowns in the past four games, including multiple scores in three straight.

Leon Johnson III had five catches for 149 yards and Brennan Presley scored two touchdowns — one rushing and one receiving — for the Cowboys, who moved into a five-way tie for the conference lead. Quarterback Alan Bowman has also impressed since taking over as the full-time starting quarterback, averaging 269.00 passing yards per game and accounting for nine total touchdowns in the five games he has played as the full-time starter.

Coach Mike Gundy’s 99 career Big 12 wins moved him past Mack Brown to stand alone with the third-most in the history of the conference. Only Bob Stoops (121) and Bill Snyder (104) have more. OSU has won 85 consecutive games when holding its opponent to fewer than 20 points, dating back to Sept. 13, 2003 – the longest active stretch of time in the FBS and longest since at least 1980. Including games when opponents have scored 20 points or fewer, the streak begins at the same date and includes 92 games. Dating back to 2005, OSU is 48-4 when not committing a turnover.
