Why Bet on the New York Jets?

In Week 17’s battle between playoff hopefuls from opposing conferences, the New York Jets had the shorter end of the stick with their 23-6 road loss to the Seattle Seahawks. That defeat bumped New York out of the AFC playoff picture as the team’s collapse has been extended to five straight losses.

Despite the return of fan-favorite backup Mike White, the Jets simply could not get anything done on offense against Seattle. White completed just 23 of 46 passes for 240 yards, no touchdowns, and a pair of interceptions. Their running game was barely utilized as well (75 rushing yards) as they had to play from behind all game long.

On the bright side, the Jets’ defense is only allowing 311.6 yards on average to their opponents this season, which is the third-best mark in the league right now. Then again, their turnover-prone offense has allowed opponents to put up more points on them of late, as their minus-7 turnover differential is tied for third-worst in the league.

Why Bet on the Green Bay Packers?

In a similar sinking boat as the Jets are the Miami Dolphins, who’ve also lost five straight after a promising start to their first season under the Mike McDaniel head-coaching regime. Their latest defeat, a 23-21 heartbreaker against the New England Patriots last Sunday, goes to show how huge of an impact the loss of Tua Tagovailoa has been for the Fins.

Tagovailoa isn’t expected to start in Week 18 as he continues to recover from his second serious concussion of the season. That means either Teddy Bridgewater or Skylar Thompson will get the start under center this coming weekend. Unfortunately, neither of them looked good in the loss to the Pats, with Bridgewater and Thompson each throwing for under 165 passing yards along with a single passing TD and a pick to boot.

The Dolphins happen to be the one team tied with the Jets for the third-worst turnover differential with seven more giveaways than takeaways as well. With a middle-of-the-road defense, Miami would need its dynamic backfield of Jeff Wilson Jr. and Raheem Mostert to have monster performances in the running game. New York’s run defense is its one weakness and McDaniel will likely take matters on the ground more often despite also having the terrific wideout tandem of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle aching for Tua’s return.

Jets vs. Dolphins Betting Trends

  • The Jets are currently on a four-game road losing streak (1-3 ATS).
  • The Jets are 3-10 against Miami since the 2016 season (3-9-1 ATS).
  • The totals went under in five of New York’s last six road games.
  • The Dolphins are 5-2 at home this season (4-3 ATS).
  • The Fins have lost three straight games against their division rivals but went 2-1 against the spread in those matchups.
  • The totals went under in six of the last seven games played in Hard Rock Stadium.

Jets vs. Dolphins Expert Betting Predictions

The odds would have it that this matchup is a real toss-up and we couldn’t agree more given how these two AFC East franchises have fallen from grace at the same time. But if we were to be forced to pick a winner here, it would have to be the Dolphins, who have been decent at home. Meanwhile, the Jets have struggled away from The Meadowlands and did also lose their first meeting against Miami this season already.
