A Closer Look at the Upcoming Season

The 2022-23 Premier League concluded with Manchester City capturing their seventh title in history. This brings their run to five wins in the last six seasons. It’s no surprise that they are the -147 runaway favorites for the next title up for grabs. Despite major departures that include captain Ilkay Gundogan, City’s depth is unparalleled. The club recently signed Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea, with rumors of acquiring Gabri Veiga, Josko Gvardiol, and Levi Colwill. Furthermore, they maintain core players like Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, and Julian Alvarez.

Arsenal trails the heavy favorites at +500 after finishing second place last season. The Gunners threw away an eight-point advantage over the eventual champions in a few weeks. While the team vastly improved, manager Mikel Arteta’s young squad needed to find ways to sustain their momentum better. Kai Havertz joins the lineup from Chelsea and is expected to introduce more attacking sting.

Jurgen Klopp and his squad look forward to suiting up for the 2023-24 season after losing forwards Luis Diaz and Thiago to injury last year. Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai sign with the Reds, which adds more cushion to their midfield needs. Meanwhile, the +785 winners bid farewell to staple players Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita.

We haven’t seen Manchester United deliver massive results in the last few years. Erik ten Hag’s side did show a gradual improvement previously. The club clawed its way to third place by the final day. Marcus Rashford greatly improved and the costly signings of Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez paid off. The Red Devils went on to win the EFC Carabao Cup and finished as FA Cup finals runners-up as +1,000 favorites to win.

Newcastle United holds solid numbers leading up to the season. Eddie How and his crew finished in the Champions League places after an incredible run. The Magpies could cause chaos in the next transfer window as well. Chris Wood is the only notable departure from the team. Sandro Tonali, Dusan Vlahovic, Theo Hernandez, Reiss Nelson, Conor Gallagher, and Federico Chiesa are also rumored to join the outfit before the window closes.

A Closer Look at the Upcoming 2023-24 UEFA Champions League Season

Manchester City blew the competition in the early part of the year. This is a statement that struck the heart of its opponents. With no major speed bumps or injuries throughout the run, and Earling Haaland looking like the best player in the world right now, the Citizens headline the competition until another club comes in to sweep them out from under.

The next best team comes in the form of the Bundesliga unit. Bayern Munich failed to keep up with City in the previous campaign, falling in the hands of Pep Guardiola and company in the quarterfinals. There have been issues at the top of the organization despite Bayern claiming their 11th-consecutive Bundesliga title, as chief executive and former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn and director Hasan Salihamidzic were fired shortly after the championship-clinching bout. Julian Nagelsmann was also shown the door earlier in the year.

Trailing the two juggernauts of European soccer is another multiple UEFA Champions League winner Real Madrid. The La Liga club will enter the pitch with a lineup without 2022 Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema. Can Los Blancos gain traction with a relatively new player pool and have their revenge on Man City after falling in the hands of the Premier League side in the previous semifinals?

Matchday 1 of the Group Stage kicks off on September 19-20, 2023, with the drawing held at the end of August. The sixth and final matchday happens between December 12-23. The knockout stage starts on February 13-14, 2023, with another round of drawing happening on December 18, 2023. The round closes on March 12-13, while the quarter-final draw happens on March 15, 2024.

All home-and-home quarter-finals are played on April 9-10 and April 16-17. The home-and-home semifinals shortly follow on April 30 to May 1 and May 7-8. Closing off the tournament is a do-or-die Finals match held at Wembley Stadium on June 1.
