Colorado vs. Oregon 2023 College Football Week 4 Odds, Preview & Pick

By Hank Blaine

19-ranked Colorado faces one of their stiffest challenges of the season on Saturday when Coach Prime leads the Buffs into Autzen Stadium to take on 10-ranked Oregon. The Ducks are a massive three-touchdown favorite to hand the Buffs their first loss of the season. Will Coach Sanders and his two sons, Shedeur and Shiloh, does enough for Colorado to keep the Cinderella season alive? Or will Oregon show why they’re a legit National Championship contender?

Why Bet on the Colorado Buffaloes?

Colorado’s defense isn’t the team’s strength. The Buffaloes allow 460.3 total yards and over 30 points per game. But before decrying how awful the defense is, it’s important to note that TCU has a great offense. So does Colorado State.

In the Nebraska game, the Buffs stood their ground, yielding 14 points. The issue on Saturday will be how well the secondary plays without two-way star, and Colorado’s top cornerback, Travis Hunter.

No doubt, the reason Colorado upset TCU, beat Nebraska, and then managed an overtime win against rival Colorado State is because of their excellent offense. The offense’s success starts with Deion’s son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

If the season ended today, Shedeur would win the Heisman. Sanders has thrown for 1,251 yards and 10 touchdowns to a single interception. Shedeur is completing 78.7% of his passes. Even versus a solid defense like Nebraska’s, Sanders excelled.

The Buffaloes average 41.3 points and 479 total yards per. Colorado lights up the scoreboard with the best offenses in the nation.

Why Bet on the Oregon Ducks?

Dan Lanning is known as a defensive guru. So it makes sense that the Ducks allow less than 16 points per game and less than 286 yards on average.

Lanning’s Oregon D resembles the defenses he ran for Kirby Smart at Georgia. The Ducks fly to the football. Although Oregon gave up 30 points to Texas Tech in a key road victory in their second game, the D produced 3 interceptions and 58 total tackles.

Oregon ranks second in the nation in points per game with 58. The Ducks average 587 total yards, ranking third. It’s impossible to stop one facet of Oregon’s offense.

The Ducks run for 229.3 yards per game. Bo Nix averages 357.7 yards each contest. The former Auburn quarterback is posting stats comparable to Sanders’ when completing 77.6% of his passes and throwing for 8 TDs and 893 yards.

Colorado vs. Oregon Betting Trends

  • Ducks are 3-0 ATS in their last 3.
  • Oregon is 24-1 SU in their last 25 home games.
  • Ducks are 9-1 SU in their last 10 versus Colorado.
  • Colorado is 3-0 SU this season.
  • Buffaloes are 3-5 ATS in their last 8.
  • Over is 5-0 in Colorado’s last 5 on the road.

Colorado vs. Oregon Expert Betting Predictions

Colorado has a great offense, but the defense is mediocre, which is the reason sports bettors haven’t bet enough on the Buffaloes to change the spread line. The defense gives up way too many yards and points for Colorado to keep pace in this.

For sure, Sanders and the offense will have some success throwing the football, but Colorado averages just 61 yards per game on the ground. If the Buffs can’t get anything going rushing the football, Lanning will sit back in a Cover 2 and force Sanders to make difficult decisions.

On offense, Bo Nix and the Ducks should be able to do anything they wish. Oregon runs and passes with the best teams in the nation. 21 seems like a lot of points, but Oregon is the much better overall team in this matchup. Ducks cover.
