2022 Wells Fargo Championship Recap
Homa shot a -8 to win the 2022 Wells Fargo title. Three players followed Homa in second: Keegan Bradley, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Cameron Young. All three shot a -6.
Rory McIlroy finished fifth after a -2. Sixth place was a three-way tie among Lanto Griffin, Stephan Jaeger, and Anirban Lahiri. All three shot a -3.

Outside of Rory McIlroy, all other participants in this year’s Wells Fargo Championship offer fair to overlay odds. McIlroy isn’t playable given his odds and the level of his competition.
One of the top competitors to the chalk’s run to the trophy is Xander Schauffele. Xander ranks fifth in the world, which makes sense after his last two performances.
Schauffele finished fourth at both the RBC Heritage and the team tournament Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Xander finished tenth at the Masters. So he’s been playing well since early April.

Tony Finau heads to Quail Hollow after winning the Mexico Open. The world’s eleventh ranked golfer finished a tied twenty-sixth at the Masters and a thirty-first at the RBC Heritage.
Finau didn’t play well in this last year. But he’s in much better form leading up to the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship. Give Tony a big chance and the odds make the second pick an overlay.
2023 Wells Fargo Championship Third Pick
Viktor Hovland didn’t tee off at the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship. Viktor is playing well enough, though, to rank twelfth in the world.
Save for the RBC Heritage disaster, where Hovland finished a tied fifty-ninth, Viktor has played great. He finished tenth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Then at The Players Championship, Hovland almost won, finishing third.
At Augusta, Hovland continued playing well, finishing seventh. If not for a 74 final round, the third pick would have finished in the top 5 at the Masters.
2023 Wells Fargo Championship Underdog Pick
The defending champ does not head into this playing his best golf. Max Homa missed the cut at the RBC Heritage. Then he and his teammate missed the cut at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
But if Max can rediscover his best swing before Thursday, the champ is plenty good enough for the repeat. Home has won two tournaments this year. He’s also played great in other tournaments like scoring a second place finish at The Genesis Invitational and a sixth at The Players Championship. The defending champ can get the repeat and he offers better than fair odds. So consider if you want to back an underdog.
