Stage 10

Pello Bilbao bags the Stage 10 win when he sprinted out of the breakaway following a thrilling day of racing. The Bahrain Victorious rider documents his first Tour de France stage win at 33 years of age. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a Spanish rider take a stage win–100 stages specifically. Bilbao’s victory also brings him within the top five of the General Classification standings. Bilbao showed his experience here and rode an incredibly tactical sprint, protecting himself with Zimmerman and O’Connor for as long as possible before putting the pedal to the metal. The Spaniard became the fifth first-time stage winner of the 2023 Tour de France.

Krists Neilands of Israel-Premier Tech also showcased his talent and earned the KOM points on Cote de la Chapelle-Marcousse, a Category Three climb, and held his lead in front of the two chase groups. Despite falling in the hands of the chasers with less than a kilometer to go, he put up an impressive ride and finished with a respectable fourth place.

Stage 11

Jasper Philipsen takes the stage once again in the 2023 Tour de France. The Alpecin-Deceuninck rider won Stage 11 and his fourth stage win so far. He continues to impose himself in the sprint stages. This one was a wet and tricky finish in Moulins, but that didn’t hold the Belgian cyclist back, who flung past Dylan Groenewegen in the closing meters of the course.

Philipsen looks untouchable at this point and is now the king of the sprints. The 25-year-old captured his fourth stage victory. As a plus, he increased his lead in the Maillot Vert competition. He is well ahead of his rivals and leads by 145 points. What’s most impressive about his most recent win was he did it without his leadout man Mathieu van der Poel, who struggled to find him in the run to the finish. This only solidifies the fact that Philipsen can win in different ways and looks unmalleable ahead of Stage 21 in Paris.

Stage 12

Cofidis secured two stage wins after Stage 12 of the 2023 Tour. Ion Izagirre produced a brilliant ride with 30k to go on the final climb. The 34-year-old veteran broke free of the breakaway that included heavy hitter, Mathieu van der Poel, taking the day’s stage win. This win is also Izagirre’s second career stage win.

Of course, the French ended a 15-year Tour stage win drought on Stage 2 when Victor Lafay powered himself to victory. But their story doesn’t end there. Izagirre added another win after a move on Mathieu van der Poel and the rest of the breakaway. He timed his attack perfectly and rode clear to a Stage 12 victory. Cofidis also had Gui Martin in the right position, highlighting their proper execution of the race strategy.

Another French rider was going for a stage win in the form of Thibaut Pinot. The 33-year-old cyclist from Groupama-FDJ is in his final Tour de France and moved into the top ten of the General Classification. He moved up from 15th overall to tenth overall by the end of the day. It’s always nice to see a seasoned veteran work his way to the race leaders in this year’s Tour.
