2023 Pac-12 Championship Odds and Preview

By Jeff Stinger

The Pac-12 was well-represented in the upper tier of college football last season, with five programs from the conference making the final top 25 rankings of the AP poll. It’s crowded once again out West, which makes predicting the next conference champion more trivial than it’s ever been in recent memory.

Nitrobetting is here to take your bets into the end zone this 2023 NCAA Football season. This time, let’s break down several teams that are seen as favorites, sleepers, and long shots to win the 2023 Pac-12 Championship and their corresponding odds of becoming the next conference champion.

Odds to Win the 2023 Pac-12 Championship

Favorites

USC Trojans

There’s no doubt that USC is confident with its offense in the hands of quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams. The Trojans averaged the third-most offensive yards per game in the FBS last season. However, their late-season downfall was because of their defense, and head coach Lincoln Riley went straight to task and upgraded that side of the ball with more than a handful of promising transfers. For as long as the defense makes a huge improvement, USC is deserving of its status as the odds-on favorite to win the Pac-12 in 2023.

Oregon Ducks

Another stud QB from the West Coast will be fighting it out with Caleb Williams for Pac-12 supremacy, as Oregon’s Bo Nix prepares to take last year’s 10-3 Ducks squad to new heights. Oregon averaged nearly 39 points per contest and a bend-but-not-break defense returns with seven starters from last season. The Ducks’ offensive line made up of mostly rookies is quote concern, but that doesn’t deter them from being seen as another strong favorite to win the conference this season.

Dark Horses

UCLA Bruins

Thanks to a nine-win campaign in 2022, UCLA finished with its best performance in the regular season since 2014. It seems that Chip Kelly’s magic hasn’t been snuffed out after all, but now the former touted Oregon head coach will have to somewhat rebuild from the ground up and hope to replicate last year’s success. Freshman QB Dante Moore and Ball State transfer running back Carson Steele have big shoes to fill left by Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Zach Charbonnet, respectively. With more questions than answers on offense, the Bruins can be seen as no more than an enticing sleeper pick to beat out the rest of the top-heavy Pac-12.

Washington State Cougars

Cameron Ward looked terrific under center for the Cougars, throwing for over 3,200 yards and 23 touchdowns. Ward did lose a few crucial weapons from last year’s roster, and that will cap the ceiling of Washington State’s offense. The team did have the third-best defense in the conference last season and a capable QB at the helm making his return to the program. With the right mix of unpredictability and competence, Washington State is a fascinating sleeper pick to win the Pac-12 for the first time since 1997.

Huge Reach

Colorado Buffaloes

Is the hype real in Colorado, or is it all just smoke and mirrors due to the sudden arrival of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders as the team’s new head coach? Sanders’ presence alone was enough to draw several big names in the recruitment class during the transfer portal, and two-way player Travis Hunter will be a standout on both sides of the ball. Beyond the hype, though, the Buffaloes still have a porous defense and still have some room to grow and develop in Primetime’s debut head-coaching season. In turn, Colorado remains a long shot to win the Pac-12 title in an extremely stacked field.
