2023 Belgian Grand Prix Sleeper Picks

By Jeff Stinger

The grid moves on from the Hungarian Grand Prix and is now off to Belgium to race at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps. Max Verstappen is again the heavy favorite this weekend, but a particular McLaren driver moves up the board following back-to-back podium finishes. This mix-up gets bettors and motorsport fans excited as numbers begin to shift. That said, it’s just as important to consider the sleeper picks with more teams starting to find an upward trend that could deliver more surprising results coming our way.

Logan Sargeant

  • 2023 Belgian Grand Prix Odds: +10,000

After appearing in four practice sessions last season, Logan Sargeant secured a seat with Williams for the 2023 campaign. The American driver has seen a positive trend in the previous few races despite a slow start in Bahrain. He’s seen a few unlucky moments, such as a DNF in Canada. Nevertheless, his season-best finish in Great Britain spells nothing but hope for the constructor. The 22-year-old nearly scored his first World Championship points in Silverstone a few weeks ago. Although he followed it up with a rather disappointing P18 performance in Hungary, we eagerly await him unlocking the potential of the FW45 like what his teammate Alex Albon did in recent races.

It’s tough for any rookie to find the podium. And this Max Verstappen dominance proves that it can be difficult even for experienced drivers to race to the top three. So far, the American appeared in two Q2s in 11 Grand Prix entries and remains a promising sleeper pick for the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix.

Alex Albon

  • 2023 Belgian Grand Prix Odds: +10,000

There’s no question that Alex Albon can do better with a more competitive car in his hands. Nonetheless, what he’s been doing for Williams as of late is enough to establish his name among the best drivers in the grid. The Thai driver scored points in two of his last four races, bagging a P7 in Canada and a P8 finish in the British Grand Prix. He also almost scored points in two of those four races, finishing P11 in Australia and Hungary.

The 27-year-old, who previously drove for Red Bull, is 11 races into this season, which includes four Q3 appearances and two unfortunate DNFs. He also records the best start of P8 and a P7 best result with three points finishes to boot. Albon has 11 World Championship points, which is good for 13th place in the 2023 Driver Standings.

Lance Stroll

  • >2023 Belgian Grand Prix Odds: +10,000

Aston Martin is possibly the biggest surprise of the 2023 season’s first half. It started with multiple points finishes for Fernando Alonso and a consistent P10 or better finish for Lance Stroll. The Canadian finished P7 or better in three of his first four races. Lance finished P6 in Bahrain, followed by a DNF. He quickly bounced back from the disappointing result and nearly stepped on the podium in Australia, only to finish behind his teammate. Nevertheless, the Silverstone-based constructor supplied a competitive car that made him a viable sleeper pick.

Stroll made six Q3 appearances in 11 races, including a P5 best start and P4 best finish. He also scored points on seven occasions to collect 45 World Championship points, good for ninth place in the Driver Standings.
