Why Bet on Elena Rybakina?

Proving her doubters wrong once again is No. 22 seed Elena Rybanika, who took down former Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka in the semifinal round. It was the fifth match of the tournament that she won in straight sets, but did face her first tiebreaker scenario of the tourney in the opening set against Azarenka and managed to close out the set in stride.

Rybanika, last year’s Cinderella story at Wimbledon, has had mediocre showings on the courts since her maiden title-winning campaign in London. However, the young Kazakhstani seems to revel in Grand Slam events as with her current run in Melbourne. Case in point: she was the one who staged the massive upset of World No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the third round.

Unfortunately, Rybakina’s final opponent is someone who’s beaten her in all three of their previous meetings. Then again, she’s already been to a Grand Slam final before and Sabalenka has yet to accomplish that feat, let alone win the entire event. It’s this experience in Wimby that could give her a slight edge of not having to worry about making a Grand Slam debut.

Why Bet on Aryna Sabalenka?

On an even better tear through Melbourne than Rybanika is fifth-seeded Aryna Sabalenka, who made quick work of her semifinal opponent. She ousted unseeded Canadian Magda Linette in straight sets and all of her matches in Melbourne thus far have been won in this fashion. In fact, she has yet to lose a set this calendar year dating back to her win in Adelaide.

Giving Sabalenka even more motivation to succeed in her Grand Slam final debut is that she’ll have to avenge her fellow Belarussian Azarenka, who we mentioned earlier was eliminated in the semis by Rybakina. Adding even more credibility to her status as the odds-on favorite is that she’s made it to three other Grand Slam semis since 2021.

Although Sabalenka’s undefeated head-to-head record against Rybakina is also a plus, it’s worth noting that her opponents in the Aussie Open haven’t been truly formidable threats. As the 2021 Australian Open doubles champion alongside Elise Mertens, however, she’s pretty much on even footing with Rybakina in terms of Grand Slam finals appearances.

Elena Rybakina vs. Aryna Sabalenka 2023 Australian Open Women’s Final Expert Betting Prediction

This should be an excellent, close match, which makes choosing a winner difficult. The key to finding the winner has to do with strategy.

If you like to back tennis players based on head-to-head, Sabalenka is an easy choice. Aryna is 3- 0 versus Elena in the lone 3 matches between the two.

The flip side of that is Rybakina might be coming into her own. So, if you like backing the up and coming star, throwing dollars behind Rybakina might be the way to go.

We’re siding with the dog. The odds difference makes Elena Rybakina more than playable. Not only that, but Rybakina won Wimbledon in 2022 and has started off 2023 in excellent form. This year could be Elena’s.
