Why Bet on the Arlington Renegades?

Thanks to a very opportunistic defense, the Arlington Renegades secured their first win of the 2023 XFL season with a tense 22-20 victory over the Vegas Vipers. A couple of interceptions were returned for touchdowns and it’s these two pick-sixes that have the Renegades as a team to keep on everyone’s radar.

Unfortunately, the other half of Arlington’s roster leaves a lot to be desired. The team got a subpar effort from starting quarterback Drew Plitt, who threw for just 172 passing yards and a costly interception of his own on 19-of-25 passing.

The Renegades’ rushing attack didn’t look impressive at all either, as they averaged just 2.7 yards per carry against the Vipers. That being said, Head coach/general manager Bob Stoops will have to dig deep from the bag of tricks he acquired after guiding the 2000 Oklahoma Sooners to the national title in order to turn his new team around, and soon.

Why Bet on the Houston Roughnecks?

After the 33-12 thrashing of the Orlando Guardians in the season opener, the Houston Roughnecks have stood out from the rest of the XFL pack as the team to beat early on in the new campaign. Kudos goes out to former Super Bowl-winning defensive coordinator Wade Phillips for putting Houston at the forefront of the division standings.

Quarterback Brandon Silvers had a mixed bag of a season debut, throwing for 272 passing yards and a pair of TDs but also throwing two interceptions. Silvers benefitted from a pair of stud wideouts in Deontay Burnett and Jontre Kirklin, who combined for 13 catches, 161 receiving yards, and those TD passes from the former gunslinger out of Troy.

Houston’s running game also deserves a mention, as the backfield duo of Max Borghi and Dejoun Lee combined for 77 rushing yards and 5.5 yards per carry. It’s the Roughnecks’ defense that will need to prove itself worthy in Week 2 after making quick work of a putrid Guardians offense last week.

Arlington Renegades vs. Houston Roughnecks Expert Betting Predictions

The Roughnecks are the most heavily-favored team to win its Week 2 matchup and there’s a ton of evidence from their convincing Week 1 rout to support that. Although there’s a possibility that Houston’s defense will be exposed by a middling Renegades offense, the Roughnecks should still be able to cover the relatively large spread, especially since they’ll have the home-field advantage in their second game of the season as well.
