2023 NL Cy Young Award MLB Future Odds

By Jeff Stinger

The race for the National League Cy Young Award will be interesting, to say the least, especially with future Hall-of-Famer Justin Verlander coming over to the NL. However, two big names stand out from the rest of the pack and both of them already have the hardware to prove it. That being said, who are the front-runners and sleepers odds-wise to date?

Nitrobetting is ready to lend a hand to its bettors with their winning bets to be shot out of the park. This time, let’s break down several pitching favorites and sleepers to win the 2023 MLB season’s NL Cy Young Award and their respective MLB odds to win the coveted award.

Favorites

Sandy Alcantara (Marlins)

  • Odds to Win the 2023 NL Cy Young Award: +475

Not a big surprise here, as reigning NL Cy Young award winner Sandy Alcantara is the front-runner to repeat as the National League’s best pitcher in 2023. The 27-year-old Dominican is the Marlins’ biggest catch in recent years, with Alcantara posting a superb 2.28 ERA and leading the majors with an astounding bWAR of 8.0. Regardless of Miami’s success this season (or lack thereof), Alcantara will likely remain a favorite to pull off back-to-back Cy Young wins all season long.

Corbin Burnes (Brewers)

  • Odds to Win the 2023 NL Cy Young Award: +500

It wasn’t that long ago when Milwaukee’s top ace Corbin Burnes also held the title of the best pitcher in the National League. After posting the best ERA in the NL during his landmark 2021 campaign, Burnes followed that up by serving the most strikeouts in the majors last season (243) to keep his two-year stretch of dominance intact. The 28-year-old righty is in his prime and is another strong favorite to reclaim the NL Cy Young throne from Alcantara in 2023.

Dark Horses

Yu Darvish (Padres)

  • Odds to Win the 2023 NL Cy Young Award: +2200

There are plenty of pitching mouths to feed over in San Diego such as Joe Musgrove and Blake Snell. However, Japanese sensation Yu Darvish remains the team’s most reliable arm, as what his six-year, $108 million contract extension from the Padres would suggest. Darvish is now in his 11th MLB season and is 36 years of age, which may be why the 2020 NL wins leader is seen as no more than a sleeper candidate to win his first-ever Cy Young award.

Logan Webb (Giants)

  • Odds to Win the 2023 NL Cy Young Award: +3000

Expectations were high for Logan Webb and the Giants in 2022 and, sadly, those lofty expectations weren’t met. San Francisco failed to regain the momentum from their banner 2021 season, but at least their top ace was still serviceable. Webb finished 11th in Cy Young voting last year with decent stats (15-9, 2.90 ERA, 163 Ks), and it’s his consistent form that earns him some consideration as another sleeper pick to become the first Giants pitcher to win the Cy Young Award since Tim Lincecum in 2009.

Huge Reach

Marcus Stroman (Cubs)

  • Odds to Win the 2023 NL Cy Young Award: +12500

Save for a lone All-Star appearance in 2019 and a Gold Glove Award in 2017, not much can be said about polarizing Cubs pitcher Marcus Stroman. The hot-headed 31-year-old has ironically seen his pitching prowess cool off significantly, seeing his ERA balloon up from 3.02 in his final year with the Mets to 3.50 in his debut season in Chicago. In turn, Stroman is no more than a longshot to win the NL Cy Young Award, especially since he also has to convince voters that his controversial personality should not factor into his performance.
